As more and more people call Maricopa County home, improving the efficiency of our roadway network has never been more important.  The construction of the Northern Parkway corridor creates a key connection for residents and businesses in the fast-growing West Valley. The project is a partnership of Maricopa County and the Cities of El Mirage, Glendale and Peoria.

“The Northern Parkway concept developed from a need for better transportation options for West Valley residents who needed to drive east for work, for school, to run errands or visit friends and family,” said Ben Markert, Maricopa County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) Project Manager for the Northern Parkway project.

Like similar-sized transportation projects, the 12.5 mile Northern Parkway project is being constructed in phases. The first two phases were completed between 2013 and 2015. A third phase of construction is  expected to begin in mid-2018 continuing through 2020.

When completed, the Northern Parkway corridor will improve travel time and traffic flow and create vital connections between Loop 303, Loop 101 and Grand Avenue. It will provide another crossing over the Agua Fria River and will reduce intersection crashes with controlled access points.

MCDOT and its partners are also analyzing the corridor to define future phases to extend the project from 111th Avenue east to Grand Avenue (US 60).

“Projects like Northern Parkway are important because they allow us to help our families, friends and neighbors get where they need to go in a timely and efficient manner,” said Supervisor Clint Hickman, District 4.
