Mental Health Awareness Month

One in five adults in the United States face a mental health condition in any one year – that’s almost 44 million people – or 2,800 County employees. This year, people are experiencing even more stress and fear because of COVID-19 and feelings of isolation because of social distancing requirements. That means someone around you (maybe even you) right now may be struggling with their mental health. And that’s okay.

If you or someone you know is having trouble with their mental health or addiction challenges, it’s important to get help or provide support. Many people may not know who to talk to, where to go, or even what to say. They may also avoid getting help because of the perceived stigma associated with needing mental health care. Let’s resolve to break the cycle of stigma and make talking about our mental health the norm!

The Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is available to support you and your family members at (888) 213-5125 or via the website. The program provides a full range of counseling and referral services. Twelve free counseling sessions are available per person, per event, per year. Sessions can be by phone, text, chat, video conference, or in person, depending on your preference. The EAP also provides information, tools and resources to help guide you and your family members to other appropriate care like financial, legal, and relationship support.

Wellness Works is also providing resources to help you recognize when your loved one is struggling and how you can offer support, especially during COVID-19.
